Examination
1. Try to start the car in each gear, the starter should work only in neutral or park position.
Replacement
2. Remove the battery and, on fuel-injected models, the air filter.
3. Shift into neutral.
4. Unscrew the nut and disconnect the mode selector lever from the shaft on the gearbox.
7.4 Rotate the neutral sensor so that its flange is aligned with the shorter of the two control levers (A), then tighten the bolts
5. Disconnect the neutral sensor electrical connector.
6. Unscrew the two bolts securing the neutral gear sensor.
7. Remove the sensor from the gearbox.
8. Install the new sensor in place and tighten the mounting bolts.
9. Install the gear shift lever and nut. Tighten the nut securely.
10. Connect the electrical connector.
Adjustment
11. Rotate the neutral switch until the shorter of the two shift levers aligns with the flange on the switch housing, then tighten the bolts to the torque specified in specifications of this Chapter (see illustration 7.4).
12. Check the operation of the gearbox in all positions of the gear shift lever, and adjust again if necessary.
