Heater — general information (Mitsubishi Lancer 3)

Fresh air for the heater is sucked in through the grille under the windshield and enters the passenger compartment through the heater ventilation system. The air flows around the heater housing and through various flaps exits into separate air outlet nozzles. If the heater is set to "heat", then the cold air is heated by the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger is located in the heater housing and is heated by hot coolant. The flowing fresh air is heated by the hot sections of the radiator and then exits into the passenger compartment. On cars produced before 8.88, the heater had water regulation, that is, the temperature was regulated by a valve in the coolant channel of the heater. On cars produced since 9.88, the heating is regulated by the amount of air passing through the heat exchanger (air regulation), and the coolant constantly circulates in the heat exchanger. To increase the power of the heater, a four-stage heater fan is used. Resistors are connected to set different fan speeds. These resistors are located on the fan connection board. In case of a defect, the connection board is replaced as a set. The heater housing and the fan are located in the passenger compartment under the instrument panel.

Special version: air conditioner

With the help of the air conditioner, the temperature in the passenger compartment can be set lower than the outside temperature. When the air conditioner is running, the humidity in the passenger compartment is also reduced. The air conditioner compressor is driven by the engine via a V-belt, which must be checked as part of the maintenance and replaced if worn, see the section "Maintenance". Repairs to the air conditioner must only be carried out in special workshops.

Attention: it is prohibited to open the air conditioner working fluid circuit, and do not carry out welding work near it, since when fluid comes out of the circuit, it creates a health hazard.
