1. Install the starter anchor in the trawler (device for detecting short-circuited turns in starter and generator windings).

2. While slowly turning the anchor in the trawler, hold a thin steel plate parallel to the axis of the anchor shaft. In the event of a short circuit of a winding turn, the plate will begin to vibrate and be attracted to the armature core. In this case, replace the anchor.

Caution: Before checking, clean the anchor surface thoroughly.




3. Check the insulation between each commutator lamella and the armature winding core. If the circuit is open, the insulation is good.
