All vehicles covered in this manual have hydraulic brakes. The front brakes are disc brakes, and the rear brakes can be disc or drum brakes.

Hydraulic system

The hydraulic system consists of two diagonally divided circuits.

Pressure relief valve

This valve regulates the pressure in the rear brake circuit to prevent the wheels from locking during hard braking.

Brake servo booster

The servo booster uses the difference between the intake manifold pressure and atmospheric pressure to boost the brakes.

Handbrake

The handbrake operates only the rear brakes using a cable.

Maintenance

After repairing any part of the brake system, road test the brakes. Check the operation of the brakes at different speeds and with different pressure on the brake pedal.
