  • Fusible Links — General Description
0
Some targets are protected by fusible links. Links are used in circuits that do not have conventional fuses, such as the ignition circuit.

The fuse links on these models are similar to fuses in that they are easy to detect when they have failed. On early models, the fuse links are checked with an ohmmeter.

Warning: Disconnect the battery before testing, otherwise the ohmmeter may be damaged.

To replace the fusible link, first disconnect the negative battery cable. On early models, disconnect the blown link and replace it with a new one (purchased from your dealer) (see illustration). On later models, the fusible link is replaced by simply disconnecting it (see illustration). Before installing a new link, determine the cause of the circuit overload that caused the link to blow.

4.3a. On early models, the main fuse (shown by the arrow) is located on the battery cable

4.3b. On later models, disconnect the fuse link and replace it with a new one, before replacing, find the cause of the circuit overload
