Keys and door/trunk locks (Mitsubishi Galant 6)

Keys

1. The standard set includes three keys: two main keys and a third additional key.

2. The master keys fit all locks. Keep one of them (with the identification tag attached) in a safe place as a spare key.

3. The additional key fits all locks except the boot lid/tailgate and glove box.

4. The identification number of the keys is stamped on a special tag attached to one of the main keys. Write down the number and keep the key and tag in different places so that in case of loss you can order a key from a Mitsubishi service center.



5. To start an engine equipped with an immobilizer, a special electronic chip is built into the key head (see below).

Electronic immobilizer

General information

The electronic immobilizer provides additional anti-theft protection for the vehicle.

The components of the engine immobilizer system include: a special key with a built-in electronic chip, a receiving antenna, an electronic control unit, ECM and a specially designed ignition switch. Each time the key is turned to the ON position, the electronic chip built into the key head sends an identification code (7) to the receiving antenna of the ignition switch. In order for the engine to start, the identification code issued by the chip must match the code recorded in the immobilizer control unit. If the codes match, the immobilizer sends a signal (8) to the ECM, allowing the engine to start. Without meeting these requirements, starting the engine is not possible. The electronic immobilizer significantly reduces the risk of vehicle theft.

Precautionary measures

1. Do not place metal objects close to the ignition key when it is turned to the ON position.

2. To avoid damaging the electronic chip built into the head, try not to allow the key to come into contact with hard, sharp objects (such as a penknife) when carrying it in your pocket.

3. Do not upgrade the immobilizer - changes may result in the system failing.

4. If you lose one of the keys, immediately order a new one from the Mitsubishi service center.

5. Making a replacement or spare key requires entering a new identification code into the control unit - the car will have to be taken to a service station and given to the mechanic along with a set of all available keys.

Note: The design of the immobilization system allows for the registration of up to 8 different identification codes; thus, the owner can have no more than 8 spare keys.

6. If the engine does not start when the ignition key is turned to the START position, you should check the serviceability of the immobilization system components - drive the car to an authorized Mitsubishi service station.

Door locks

Warning! Never start driving without making sure that all the doors of the car are tightly closed! Do not leave children unattended inside the car. Try not to forget the keys in a locked car.

Front doors

1. The procedure for unlocking and locking the door using a key is shown in the illustration.

2. To unlock the door from inside the car, pull the inside door handle towards you; the doors are locked by pushing the handle into the recess of the trim panel.



3. It is also possible to lock the front doors without using a key. Set the inside locking handle to the locked position and, holding the outside handle raised (2), slam the door (3).

Note: If the key is left in the ignition, the ability to lock the vehicle door from the outside is disabled.

Rear doors

1. Set the inside lock handle (1) to the locked position and close the door (2).

2. The design of the rear door locks provides the ability to block them from opening from the car interior. This function prevents accidental opening of the doors and is especially useful when transporting small children in the back seat.

3. On the end surface of each of the rear doors there is a locking lever, which, when moved to the "On" position, locks the door.

Unified management of locks

Warning! Repeatedly switching the handle between the "locked" and "unlocked" positions continuously may cause the integrated safety circuit of the single lock to be activated, which will disable the system. In this case, wait approximately one minute before using the interior door handle or key.

All models

1. The special design of the drive allows for the simultaneous activation of locks on all vehicle doors when using the interior handle of the driver's door, as well as when unlocking/locking any of the front doors using the key.

2. The rear doors can be locked/unlocked individually using their own interior handle.

Models Universal

1. On the Station Wagon models, there is an additional option to activate the locks of all vehicle doors when the tailgate is unlocked/locked with the key.

2. On vehicles with a single lock control system, all doors can be locked or unlocked simultaneously by locking or unlocking the rear door with the key.

Remote control of locks

1. On appropriately equipped models, all vehicle doors (including the tailgate on Estate models) can be unlocked/locked using the remote control (RC) by pressing the appropriate button (LOCK/UNLOCK).

Note: When you press the buttons, the signal lamp built into the remote control should light up.

2. If the interior light switch is in the [·] position, the light will flash twice when the door is locked, and unlocking the door will turn on the light for 3 seconds.

3. The remote control system is deactivated when the ignition key is turned to the ACC or ON position, or when any of the doors is not closed tightly.

4. If none of the vehicle doors are opened within 30 seconds after pressing the UNLOCK button on the remote control, all locks will be automatically re-locked.

5. The remote control operates at a distance of approximately 4 meters, however the range of the remote control may change if the car is parked near a TV transmitter or radio station.

6. The failure of the lock actuators to operate from the remote control may be due to the exhaustion of the internal battery of the latter. A sign of a "low battery" is a decrease in the brightness of the signal lamp built into the remote control.



7. The battery should be replaced at an authorized Mitsubishi service station.

8. If you lose the remote control, please contact the Mitsubishi service center.

Precautionary measures

The remote control is a delicate electronic device and requires special care when handling:

• Do not subject the remote control to impacts;
• Try to avoid exposing the remote control to direct sunlight;
• Do not allow the remote control to come into contact with moisture.

Tailgate (Station wagon models)

1. To open the tailgate after first unlocking its lock (see above), pull the lever of the outer handle of the door assembly.



2. To close the door, grab the special internal handle.

3. When leaving your car in the parking lot, give the attendant only the additional key, which will not allow you to open the tailgate.

Trunk lid

1. The trunk lid can be unlocked from inside the car using a special drive lever, as well as from the outside using a key. Opening the lid causes the trunk lighting lamp to come on.


2. Additional locking of the luggage compartment lid lock can be achieved by moving the drive lever on the lock assembly to the appropriate position.

Attention! When the lock is locked, the lid can only be opened from the outside using a key!

3. To close the lid, take the special handle, pull the lid down and press lightly.

4. When leaving your car in the parking lot, give the attendant only the additional key, which will not allow you to open the trunk lid.
