Brake pedal height



1. Remove the mat from under the brake pedal.

2. Measure the height of the pedal position as shown in the figure. If the measured height does not correspond to the nominal value, the following operations must be performed.

Nominal value (A):
  • Left hand drive model: 192 - 195 mm.
  • Right hand drive model: 187 - 190 mm.



3. Disconnect the brake light switch connector.

4. Loosen the pusher lock nut and, by turning the pusher in one direction or another using pliers, adjust the required height of the pedal above the floor.

5. Tighten the pusher lock nut.

6. Push the brake light switch in the direction of pedal travel until it stops. (The switch moves when pressed hard).

7. Raise the pedal until the pusher is fully extended, and then move the brake light switch to the desired position. Rotate the switch to adjust its position so that the gap corresponds to that shown in the figure.

8. Connect the switch connector.

9. Make sure that the brake lights do not light when the brake pedal is not pressed.



10. Install the mat in place.

Free travel of the brake pedal



With the engine not running, press the brake pedal two or three times. After removing the vacuum from the brake booster, press the pedal with your hand and make sure that the pedal moves until resistance begins (free play) is in the optimal range.



Nominal value (B): 3 or less.

If the brake pedal free play exceeds the nominal value, there is probably increased play in the connection between the brake pedal lever and the pedal mounting bracket. Check the gap and replace damaged parts if necessary.

Distance between the brake pedal and the floor



1. Remove the mat, etc. from under the brake pedal.

2. Start the engine, press the brake pedal with a force of approximately 490 N, and measure the distance between the brake pedal and the floor.

Nominal value (C):
  • Short wheelbase: 85 mm or more.
  • Long wheelbase: 80 mm or more.

3. If the distance does not correspond to the nominal value, check the presence of air in the brake line, the distance between the brake shoe linings and the drum, and the operation of the parking brake. Adjust or replace faulty parts if necessary.



4. Install the mat in place.
