Checking the rear axle play (Mitsubishi Pajero 4)

1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position, and then move the gear shift lever to the "2H" position. Turn the ignition key to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.

Caution: Do not lift the vehicle.

2. Turn the cardan shaft until you hear a click.

3. Turn the coupling flange counterclockwise until the gap disappears, and then align the timing marks on the dust boot with the timing marks on the differential cup.



4. Turn the connecting flange counterclockwise until the gap disappears, and then measure the distance that the alignment marks have traveled.

Limit value: 5 mm.

5. If the distance exceeds the limit value, the following components must be checked:

• 1) Backlash of the drive gear;
• 2) Differential play.
