1. Using a puller, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

Caution! Use a special tool to loosen the ball joint pin nut. Do not completely remove the nut from the ball joint pin. To prevent the puller from bouncing, hang it on a wire or cord.

2. Rotate the ball joint pin several times and tighten the nut. Using a special tool, measure the moment the ball joint starts to rotate (Fig. 13.3). The nominal value is 1.0–3.0 N·m.

3. If the obtained value exceeds the nominal value, replace the tie rod end.

4. If the obtained value is less than the nominal value, make sure that there are no increased gaps or jams in the ball joint. Only in this case the ball joint is suitable for operation.
