Replacing the fuel pump (Mitsubishi Carisma)

1. Raise the rear seat cushion.

2. Remove the protective cover.

3. Relieve residual pressure in the fuel line to prevent fuel splashing in the event of a leak.

4. Disconnect the fuel lines and connectors, and then remove the fuel pump.

5. Make sure that the rubber gasket of the fuel tank is not damaged or deformed, then securely fasten the gasket.

6. Apply soapy water to the inner surface of the gasket and then install the fuel pump.

Caution: If the rubber gasket is damaged or deformed, replace it with a new one.


7. Using the special tool, tighten the fuel pump cover to 49 N·m.

Caution! Do not tilt the fuel pump when installing it. Do not allow the gasket to become jammed when installing it.


8. Check the system for leaks after installing the fuel pump using the following procedure:
  • apply soapy water around the circumference of the lid;
  • plug the fuel vapor recovery system hose and the main fuel line through the fuel return hose, create a pressure of no more than 10 kPa in the fuel tank and make sure there are no soap bubbles.
