Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) (Mitsubishi Space Star)

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is designed to work in conjunction with the seat belts to help reduce injury to the driver and front passenger in a severe frontal collision. In the event of a collision, the seat belt pretensioners are activated simultaneously with the airbags.

SRS consists of: four airbags, SRS-ECU airbag control unit, side impact sensors, SRS warning lamp and coil wire (Fig. 19.110).



Before servicing the airbag system, make sure that at least 60 seconds have passed after the ignition has been turned off and the negative battery cable has been disconnected. This time is necessary to discharge the capacitor and prevent unauthorized deployment of the airbags, which could lead to injury.
