- The engine oil level is checked by the oil level indicator (dipstick) located on the front side of the engine. The oil level indicator (dipstick) passes through the guide tube into the oil pan, where oil accumulates after lubricating the engine units.
- The oil level should be checked before starting the engine, or 5 minutes after turning off the engine. If the check is carried out immediately after turning off the engine, some oil will remain in the upper engine units and will not have time to drain into the pan, as a result of which the measurement result will be incorrect.
- Remove the oil level indicator (dipstick) from the guide tube and wipe it with a clean rag or tissue.
- Insert a clean oil level indicator (dipstick) into the guide tube until it stops and pull it out again. Check the oil level, which should be between the marks (Fig. 3.61)

- Also check the oil condition when checking the level. Before wiping the oil level indicator (dipstick), run your finger over it. If small solid particles remain on your finger, change the engine oil immediately.
- Checking the engine oil level is an important element of engine maintenance. A rapid drop in oil level indicates a leak through the crankshaft seals or oil pan gasket, wear of piston rings or valve guides,
- If the color of the engine oil has changed to milky or there are drops of water in it, then the cylinder head gasket is broken. The engine condition must be checked immediately.
