Connecting rod bearings — check (Mitsubishi Colt 5)

1. Inspect the connecting rod bearings for visible damage and excessive wear. If scratches, nicks, or excessive contact are found, replace the bearings. If severe wear is found, inspect the crankshaft. If the crankshaft is damaged, it must be replaced or reground.

2. Measure the inner diameter of the connecting rod head and the diameter of the crankshaft journal (Figure 2.39). If the bearing clearance is greater than the permissible wear value, replace or regrind the crankshaft or replace the bearing shells.

• Normal value: 0.02-0.06 mm.
• Limit value: 0.15 mm.

Crankshaft journal diameter:

• Repair size 1 (0.25 mm smaller): 41.740-41.725 mm.
• Repair size 2 (0.50 mm smaller): 41.490-41.475 mm.
• Repair size 3 (0.75 mm smaller): 41.240-41.225 mm.
