1. Axle shaft boots are very important because they protect the constant velocity joints from dust, water and other foreign material. Contact with oil can cause premature aging of the boots, so it is recommended to wash them with soap and water.
2. Check the boots for burrs and cracks, and that their clamps are tightly tightened. If there are visible cracks or grease leaks, the boots should be replaced as described in Chapter 8.
