Removal


  • Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
  • Remove the two screws securing the instrument cluster trim.
  • By tilting the instrument cluster trim forward and upward, release the clips and remove the trim.
  • Remove the instrument cluster mounting screws.
  • Pull the instrument cluster forward and disconnect the electrical connectors from it.

Installation


  • Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
  • Install the instrument cluster and connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery. Turn on the ignition. The speedometer and tachometer needles should move from position 0 to the maximum positions and return to 0, while they are calibrated.

Checking the speed sensor


  • Raise the car.
  • Remove the vehicle speed sensor and connect a 3-10 kOhm resistor, battery and voltmeter to the sensor connector contacts (Fig. 19.75).

  • By turning the vehicle speed sensor shaft, make sure that there is a pulse voltage (4 pulses per revolution) between contacts 2 and 3 of the sensor connector.
