Headlight adjustment (Mitsubishi Space Star)

• The headlights must be adjusted using special equipment and in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's instructions. If special equipment is not available, adjust as follows.
• Maintain proper tire pressure. The vehicle must be in running order with a full fuel tank, a tool kit, and a spare tire.
• Only a driver weighing 75 kg should be in the car.
• Clean the headlight lenses.
• Place the vehicle on a level, horizontal surface.
• Adjustment using appropriate lighting devices
• The headlight beam adjustment should be carried out using appropriate lighting devices in compliance with the requirements of the manufacturer's instructions for these devices.
• To adjust the position of the headlights, turn the adjusting screws alternately.
• Visual adjustment using the screen
• Position the vehicle at a distance of 5 m from the centers of the headlights to the screen (Fig. 19.76, 19.77).

• Before adjustment, rock the car body so that all suspension elements fall into place.
• On the screen, draw vertical lines through the center of each headlight and a horizontal line through the center of the headlights.
• Turn on the headlights and, by turning the adjusting screws (Fig. 19.78), adjust their position so that the zone of greatest illumination is located in accordance with the area highlighted in Figure 19.79.

• When adjusting the light of one headlight, turn off the other headlight by disconnecting its connector. If this is not possible, do not block the light from the other headlight for more than 3 minutes, as it may overheat.

Measuring the brightness of headlights.

• Turn on the high beam headlights.
• Using a photometer and following its instructions for use, measure the brightness of the light at the center of the headlights.

• 1. When measuring the brightness of light, the engine should operate at a crankshaft speed of 2000 min⁻¹
• 2. If a lux meter is used to measure the brightness of light, convert its readings into photometer units of measurement using the following formula.

• I - brightness of light in candelas (cd)
• E - illumination (lux)
• R - distance in meters from the headlight to the lux meter
