Checking the electrolyte level in the battery
The electrolyte level must be between the MAX and MIN·marks on the outside of the battery case (pic. 1.5). Add only distilled water as needed.

The battery is divided inside into several cans. Remove the cap from each can and add water up to the MAX mark. Do not overfill the electrolyte level above the MAX mark as it may leak out while driving and cause damage. Check the electrolyte level depending on the operating conditions of the car, but at least once every four weeks.
If the battery is not being used (vehicle is not in use), then it self-discharges over time. Check the charge of the battery every four uses and, if necessary, charge it with a weak current.
In winter, a particularly large load falls on the battery. In addition, at low temperatures, the battery gives out when starting the engine only a part of the power that it has at a positive temperature. Therefore, it is recommended to check the battery before the start of the winter season and, if necessary, recharge it.
Disconnecting and connecting wires to the battery
Before disconnecting the wires from the battery terminals, turn off the engine and then first disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery, and then from the positive one. When connecting the battery, first connect the wire to the positive terminal and then to the negative.
Warnings
(1) Do not smoke near the battery and keep it away from naked flames, as this may ignite the explosive gas (electrolyte vapor produced by the battery).
(2) Battery electrolyte is extremely harmful and poisonous. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, clothing and painted vehicle surfaces. Spilled electrolyte must be washed off immediately with plenty of water. If electrolyte gets into your eyes or on your skin, seek medical attention immediately.
Notes
(1) Do not disconnect the wires from the battery terminals if the ignition key is in the ON position. In this case, the electrical equipment of the car may fail.
(2) Keep battery terminals clean. After connecting the wires to the battery terminals, apply special protective grease to the terminals. Use warm water to clean the terminals.
(3) If the vehicle is not to be driven for a long time, remove the battery and store it in a place where the electrolyte will not freeze. The battery must always be stored in a fully charged state.
