Examination
Check the alternator drive belt tension as follows:
Generator drive belt tension:
- oscillation frequency: 150-184 Hz
- tension: 392-588 N
- deflection (set value): 8.7-11.4 mm
Using the MUT-II device
Warning: Before connecting or disconnecting the MUT-II, turn off the ignition.
1. Connect a special tool (microphone) to the MUT-II device.
2. Connect the MUT-II device to the diagnostic connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch key to the ON position and select the "Belt tension measurement" function from the main menu.
4. Position the microphone in the center of the belt branch between the pulleys at the location indicated by the arrow in Figure 3.1, perpendicular to the belt surface (at an angle of ±15°) at a distance of approximately 10-20 mm from the rear surface of the belt.
5. Using your hand, gently press the belt between the pulleys at the location indicated by the arrow in Figure 3.1 and check that the belt oscillation frequency matches the nominal value.

Warnings
- (1) The belt surface temperature should be as close to normal temperature as possible.
- (2) Do not allow foreign particles such as water or oil to enter the microphone.
- (3) The measurement results will not correspond to the actual value if the microphone is affected by strong wind or noise sources located nearby.
- (4) When measuring, do not allow the belt to touch the microphone, otherwise the measurement results will not match the actual value.
- (5) Do not perform measurement on a vehicle with the engine running.
Without using the MUT-II device
Using a special tool for measuring belt tension, check that the tension corresponds to the nominal value (Fig. 3.2).

By belt deflection
Apply a force of approximately 98 N to the centre of the belt branch between the pulleys at the location indicated by the arrow in Figure 3.3 and check that the deflection matches the nominal value.

Adjusting the alternator drive belt tension
1. Loosen the nut of the generator mounting pivot bolt (Fig. 3.4).
Fig. 3.4. Location of generator mounting bolts
2. Loosen the locking bolt.
3. Turn the adjusting bolt to adjust the belt tension.
Tensioning the poly V-belt of the generator drive:
- when installing a previously used belt:
- oscillation frequency: 159-176 Hz
- tension: 441-539 N
- deflection (set value): 9.2-10.6 mm
- when installing a new belt:
- oscillation frequency: 191-218 Hz
- tension: 637-833 N
- deflection (set value): 6.6-8.3 mm
4. Tighten the generator pivot bolt nut to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 44 Nm
5. Tighten the generator mounting lock bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 23 Nm
6. Tighten the adjusting bolt to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 5 Nm
