CAUTION: The timing belt mechanism in the diesel engine has an automatic tensioner.

Remove the timing belt cover.

Turn the crankshaft clockwise and check the condition of the toothed belt. The gearbox should be in the "neutral" position and the handbrake should be tightened.

Set the piston of the first cylinder to the TDC position. To do this, turn the crankshaft so that the mark on the camshaft wheel coincides with the pointer. Turn the toothed wheel only clockwise. Do not turn the engine by the camshaft wheel.

Loosen the timing belt tensioner locking screw from the back side using a spanner extension.

Press the belt tensioner with your hand and loosen the belt. Tighten the screw until the tensioner is stationary.

Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise so that the camshaft gear moves 1/2 tooth in the direction shown in the figure.

Loosen the timing belt tensioner screw so that it can rotate 1/6±1/2 turn, now the tension roller spring exerts pressure on the timing belt.

Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise 2-1/2 camshaft gear teeth.

Tighten the timing belt tensioner screw to 50 Nm.

Turn the crankshaft clockwise until the piston of the first cylinder reaches the TDC position.

Press the toothed belt between the camshaft wheel and the high-pressure fuel pump gear with your index finger. The belt deflection should be 4±5 mm.

Install the timing belt covers, install the V-belt.
