Valve spring — check (Mitsubishi Colt 5)

1. Measure the free length of each spring and replace it if necessary (Figure 2.23).



12-valve engines Normal value: intake valve - 46.1 mm, exhaust valve - 46.8 mm.

Limit value: inlet valve - 45.1 mm, outlet valve - 45.8 mm.

8-valve engines Normal value: 44.6 mm.

Limit value: 43.6 mm.

2. Check the spring deviation from squareness using a square. If the deviation is greater than the permissible value, replace the spring.

Normal value: 2° or less. Limit value: 4°.
