1. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC.

2. First, adjust the clearances in the intake 1 and 2 and exhaust 1 and 3 valves (Figure 2.17a, b).

Figure 2.17a. Adjusting the clearance in the intake 1 and 2 and exhaust 1 and 3 valves of 12-valve engines: 1 - Exhaust valve 1; 2 - Exhaust valve 3; 3 - Inlet valve 1; 4 - Inlet valve 2

Figure 2.17b. Adjusting the clearance in the intake 1 and 2 and exhaust 1 and 3 valves of 8-valve engines: 1 - Exhaust valve 1; 2 - Exhaust valve 3; 3 - Inlet valve 1; 4 - Inlet valve 2.

3. Loosen the adjusting bolt lock nut. Using a measuring pin, adjust the valve clearance correctly by turning the adjusting bolt (Figure 2.18).

Normal value for a cold engine: inlet valve - 0.09 mm, outlet valve - 0.17 mm.

4. After securing the adjusting bolt with a screwdriver, tighten the lock nut.

5. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees clockwise.

6. Then adjust the clearances in the valves indicated in Figure 2.19a,b.
