Hydraulic system
The hydraulic system consists of two diagonally divided circuits. The master brake cylinder has two different reservoirs for each circuit, so if one circuit leaks or fails, the other circuit will remain operational. When the brake fluid level is low, a warning light comes on, which is activated by a float switch located in the master brake cylinder reservoir.
Brake force regulator
The brake force regulator, located in the engine compartment under the brake master cylinder, regulates the pressure in the rear brakes to prevent them from locking under severe braking conditions. In addition, the brake force regulator ensures full pressure in one brake system if the other fails.
Brake booster
The brake booster uses vacuum from the engine manifold and atmospheric pressure to provide power to the hydraulic brakes. The brake booster is mounted on a cross-wall in the engine compartment.
Parking brake
The parking brake operates via a cable drive on the rear brakes only. The parking brake mechanism is activated by a lever located on the central panel.
Service
After performing any operation that involves disassembling one of the brake system components, always perform a brake test. Perform the test on a clean, dry, flat surface. Performing the test under other conditions may result in incorrect test results.
