4. Disconnect the strut from the steering knuckle. Try not to stretch the inner universal joint. It is advisable to attach the upper part of the steering knuckle to the body with a wire.
5. Support the strut with the spring with one hand, then unscrew the nuts securing the strut to the body. Remove the unit from under the wing.
Inspection
6. Inspect the rack housing for leaks, dents, scratches, or other obvious damage that may require repair or replacement.
7. Check the coil springs for scratches and damage to the spring coating (this can lead to premature spring failure due to corrosion).
8. If any of the above damage is present, disassemble the rack as described in section 5.
Installation
9. Place the strut assembly under the wing, push the upper mounting studs through the holes in the body. Then tighten the nuts so that the strut does not fall. This procedure is easier to do with an assistant, since the strut is quite heavy.
10. Install the steering knuckle into the strut flange, then install the two bolts. Install the nuts and tighten them to the torque specified in specifications of this Chapter.
11. Position the brake hose bracket on the strut, install the bolt and tighten it securely.
12. Install the wheel, lower the vehicle, tighten the wheel nuts to the torque specified in chapter 1 specifications.
13. Tighten the upper mounting nuts to the torque specified in specifications of this Chapter.
