Application: Precis models are equipped with shock absorbers and separate springs; on all other models, the shock absorber and spring are connected into one unit.
Removal
1. Loosen the rear wheel nuts, lift the rear of the vehicle and place it on supports. The supports should be installed directly under the support points, and not under the rear suspension unit. Remove the wheel.
2. Place a jack under the suspension arm spring seat and lift until you feel the spring resistance. Remove the lower shock absorber mounting bolt.
3. On models equipped with separate shock absorber and spring, slowly lower the jack until the spring is fully extended, then remove the spring from its mountings. On models with combined spring and shock absorber assemblies, locate the upper mounting bolts in the trunk of the vehicle and unscrew them. to remove the assembly from the body. To separate the spring from the shock absorber see section 5.

Installation
4. Before installing the coil spring, check the upper seat for cracks and general wear. Replace if necessary.
5. Check the buffer-limiter on the suspension arm for cracks and wear, replace if necessary, the buffer-limiter is attached to the arm with one nut located on the back of the arm.
6. Check the coil spring for cracks, damage, heavy rust and wear. If any of these damages occur, replace the spring.
7. On models equipped with a separate shock absorber and spring, install the spring into the socket on the suspension arm. Install the upper socket, making sure it is positioned correctly. On models with combined spring and shock absorber assemblies, install the spring onto the shock absorber (see section 5).

8. On models equipped with separate shock absorber and spring, raise the jack so that the lower end of the shock absorber can be attached. Tighten the bolt securely. On models with combined spring and shock absorber assemblies, install the upper mounting bolts located inside the trunk, then the lower bolt and nut.
9. Install the wheels and lower the vehicle. Tighten the wheel nuts to the torque specified in chapter 1 specifications.
