Note. When driving downhill or uphill, the speed limit may change.
The tempostat control system allows you to move in marching mode (at cruising speed), coast, accelerate, return to the previously selected speed, and adjust the selected speed in increments.
The main components of the tempostat include control switches, reset switches, speed control assembly, information sensor, control module, actuator and connecting rod.
Depending on the year of manufacture of the model, the tempostat may have electronic or vacuum control. The design of the system provides for the possibility of initiating the tempostat only when driving at a speed of at least 40 km/h (25 mph).
Control switches are usually mounted on the steering column lever or on the dashboard of the car. The sensors-switches for resetting the tempostat are mounted on the brackets of the foot brake, clutch and gas pedals, and when they are triggered, the system is immediately electrically turned off with the throttle returning to the idle position.
Diagnostics of malfunctions of the tempostat
The nature of the failure | Possible reason |
The system does not maintain the vehicle speed at the selected level | Drive cable misadjusted Throttle linkage jammed Vacuum loss occurs in the vacuum actuator or reservoir Faulty vacuum or vent valve Faulty stepper motor Faulty transmitting device Faulty speed sensor Faulty tempostat control module |
From time to time, spontaneous shutdown of the tempostat occurs | The adjustment of one of the reset sensors-switches is broken There is an open or short circuit in the associated electrical circuit Faulty transmitting device Faulty control module |
The car is jerking | Twisted speedometer cable Throttle linkage jammed Faulty speed sensor Faulty control model |
Tempostat not working | Corresponding fuse blown There is an open or short circuit in the relevant electrical circuit One of the reset switches is faulty There are vacuum losses in the vacuum path Tempostat control switch defective Faulty stepper motor Faulty transmitting device Faulty speed sensor Faulty control model |
