Removing
1. Details of installation of a back epiploon of a cranked shaft are shown on an illustration.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system!
3. Remove transmission.
4. Remove flywheel/drive plate assembly (see Section Removal and installation of a flywheel/drive disk).
5. Remove the rear plate and transmission dome.
6. If there are leaks from the rear seal housing, remove the housing. If the casing is in order, just remove the gland from it.
On some engines, a separator is additionally installed, which must also be removed.
Installation
1. Lubricate the inner lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil.
2. Using a special tool, type MD998376, press the stuffing box into the casing until it stops - make sure that the stuffing box is not twisted. If equipped, fit the separator into the casing (oil hole down).
3. Apply sealant to the mating surface, replace the gasket, and install the packing box onto the block.
4. Install flywheel/drive plate assembly and transmission.
5. Connect the negative cable to the battery. Start the engine and check it for signs of leaks.
6. Check the engine oil level. Make appropriate adjustments if necessary (see chapter Settings and ongoing maintenance).
