Note: The authors of this Manual recommend replacing the front crankshaft oil seal during the timing belt removal/installation procedures (see Section Removal and installation the timing belt cover and timing belt), since it is not possible to remove the oil seal without first removing the belt.
1. The oil seal is located under the crankshaft gear. Measure the depth of the old oil seal in its seat.
2. The seal is removed from its seat in the front cover by prying it out with a special tool.
3. Carefully clean the contact surfaces of the oil seal seat.

4. As a mandrel for seating the seal, you can use a socket head of a suitable size or a piece of pipe of the appropriate diameter.
5. Make sure that the seal is seated in the socket to a strictly specified depth.
