Windscreen wiper motor — removal and installation (Mitsubishi Colt 4)

Removal



Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

Mark the position of the wiper blades on the glass.

Remove the wiper arms from the windshield wiper shafts.

Windshield wiper.

Remove the cover from the water collection compartment.

Remove the connector from the wiper motor.

Disconnect the engine from the body by unscrewing three bolts.



Remove the windshield wiper rods from the motor ball joints.

Disconnect the rods from the wiper shafts and remove them as a set.

Rear wiper



Using a wide plastic spatula, loosen the tailgate trim and remove it.

Disconnect the connector from the wiper motor.

Remove the outer rubber bushing from the wiper shaft.

Remove the motor by unscrewing the three mounting bolts.

Installation



Before installation, the new motor should be brought to the rest position. After connecting the connector, let the motor run for about 1 minute. Then turn off the motor with the wiper switch and, after allowing it to reach the rest position, disconnect the connector.

Front windshield wiper



Install the windscreen wiper rods and tighten lightly to 5 Nm.

Connect the connector and let the motor come to rest.

Install the drive rods onto the engine crank.

Secure the motor.

Once installed, secure the water collection compartment cover.

Attach the wiper arms to the windshield wiper shaft with a force of 15 Nm. In the final position, the wipers should be 10 mm from the lower edge of the glass, only the right wiper should be 25 mm.

Rear wiper



Attach the windshield wiper motor to the tailgate.

Install the rubber bushing onto the wiper shaft so that the arrow on it points backwards, towards the bumper.



Connect the connector and let the motor come to rest. Tighten the wiper arm with a force of 10 Nm so that in the final position it is parallel to the lower edge of the glass.



Attach the tailgate trim.

Insert the caps onto the wiper shafts.

Connect the battery.

Check the operation of the windshield wiper.

If available, set the time on the clock and enter the security code into the radio.
