Checking the brake lining thickness

1. Remove the brake drum.

2. Measure the thickness of the brake lining at the most worn area (Figure 14.16). Nominal value: 4.3 mm. Acceptable value: 1.0 mm.

Figure 14.16. Checking the brake lining thickness

3. If the brake lining thickness is less than the permissible value and the linings are worn unevenly, replace the brake pads with linings.

Attention! Brake pads are replaced on both sides at the same time, so that the car does not pull to one side when braking. If there is a significant difference between the thickness of the left and right brake pads, check the brake cylinders of the brake mechanisms.

Checking the inner diameter of the brake drum

4. Remove the brake drum.

5 Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum in two or more places (Figure 14.17). Nominal value: 180 mm. Permissible value: 182 mm.

6 Brake drums and shoes must be replaced if the thickness does not meet the permitted limits or if uneven wear is detected on the disc.
