Mirage and Galant models since 1994.
Disassembly
1. The design of the rear suspension strut assembly for the Galant and Mirage models is shown in the illustration.
2. Remove the rack assembly from the vehicle (see Section Removal and installation rear struts).
3. Using a special tool, compress the coil spring.
4. Remove the protective cover.
5. While holding the shock absorber rod from turning, loosen the self-locking nut.
6. Remove the upper spring seat assembly with the lining.
7. Remove the metal bushing, bushings A and B, cup, compression stroke limiter and dust cover.
8. Remove the compressed coil spring from the shock absorber.
Installation
1. Install the compressed coil spring on the shock absorber - ensure that the end of the rod of the outermost coil of the spring fits into the recess in the seat pad.
2. Install the dust cover, compression stroke limiter, cup, metal and rubber bushings, spring seat with lining on the shock absorber.
3. Place the upper bushing A and washer onto the shock absorber rod.
4. Screw on the new self-locking nut and tighten it temporarily.
5. Remove the spring compression tool, then finally tighten the self-locking nut to the required torque (25 Nm).
6. Install the protective cover.
7. Install the shock absorber assembly with the coil spring to its standard location on the vehicle (see Section Removal and installation rear struts).
