Checking the Thermostat (Mitsubishi Pajero 4)

1. Place the thermostat in a vessel with water, and heat the water while stirring it. Measure the temperature at which the valve begins to open.

Nominal value:

Valve opening start temperature:
  • Model with 6G7 engine: 82±2°C
  • Model with 4M4 engine: 76.5±2°C



2. Measure the valve stroke at a water temperature corresponding to its full opening.

Nominal values:

Temperature of full opening of thermostat valve:
  • Model with 6G7 engine: 95°C
  • Model with 4M4 engine: 90°C

Full valve stroke:
  • Model with 6G7 engine: 10mm or more
  • Model with 4M4 engine: 8.5mm or more

Note: Measure the distance from the bottom of the valve to the thermostat housing when the thermostat is fully closed and then fully open, then calculate the valve stroke.




14. Remove the water pump assembly (9).



15. Remove the water pump gasket (10).

16. Remove the sealing ring (11).

17. Remove the water pump inlet connection (12).

18. Remove the water pump inlet connection gasket (13).

19. Remove the thermostat housing (14).

20. Remove the thermostat housing gasket (15).
