Parking brake cable (Mitsubishi Space Star)

Note: Do not bend or deform the parking brake cables, as this will cause them to operate harshly and fail prematurely.

Removal

Parking brake cable for vehicles with rear drum brakes.
Remove the floor console.
Loosen the adjusting nut.
Remove the rear brake drum (Fig. 15.66).

Remove the automatic regulator spring.
Remove the lower return spring.
Remove the automatic slack adjuster.
Remove the upper return spring.
Remove the holder cap.
Remove the holder spring.
Remove the brake shoe holder.
Remove the brake shoe and lining assembly.
Remove the retainer.
Remove the bolts, remove the cable mounting clamps and remove the parking brake cable.
Parking brake drive cable for vehicles with rear disc brakes with an integrated drum parking brake mechanism.
To remove the parking brake cable on vehicles with rear disc brakes with an integrated drum parking brake mechanism, additionally perform the following.
Remove the floor console.
Loosen the adjusting nut.
Disconnect the rear section of the cable from the parking brake shoe actuator lever.
Remove the bolts, remove the cable mounting clamps and remove the parking brake cable.

Installation

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
On a vehicle with rear disc brakes with an integrated drum parking brake mechanism, connect the parking brake cable to the parking brake shoe actuator lever and make sure that the rubber boot is securely attached to the end of the cable sheath (Fig. 15.68).
