1.1a Elements of the front suspension and steering (Galant model shown, Colt, Lancer, Mirage, Tredia and Cordia models are similar)
1. Ball joint; 2. Anti-roll bar; 3. Mounting bracket; 4. Steering gear; 5. Half shaft; 6. Suspension arm; 7. Suspension strut and spring; 8. Case
1.1b Elements of the front suspension and steering (Precis)
1. Roll; 2. Suspension strut and spring; 3. Suspension arm; 4. Ball joint; 5. Tie rod end; 6. Tie rod; 7. Steering gear cover; 8. Steering gear
1. Front suspension uses MacPherson struts (1.1a and 1.1b). The pivot pins are mounted on the suspension arms. An anti-roll bar, mounted on the front suspension cross member and connecting the suspension arms, reduces the vehicle's lean when cornering.
1.2a Elements of the rear suspension (Galant model shown, Colt, Lancer, Mirage, Tredia and Cordia models are similar)
1. Trailing arm; 2. Anti-roll bar; 3. Spring
1.2b Rear suspension elements (Precis)
1. Trailing arm; 2. Anti-roll bar; 3. Spring
2. Rear suspension uses trailing arms or torsion axle (1.2a and 1.2b). Some models have an anti-roll bar.
3. The rack and pinion steering mechanism is mounted on the rear wall of the engine compartment and actuates the steering rods, which are connected to the pivot pins. The steering column is safety and folds in the event of an accident.
