14.1 Check the crankshaft axial play using a dial gauge

1. Before removing the crankshaft, check the axial play using a dial gauge (14.1) or a set of feeler gauges.
14.2 The arrow on the main bearing caps points towards the front of the engine (towards the timing belt)
1. Arrow; 2. Bearing number
2. Mark the main bearing caps if they do not have marks (14.2) and, loosening the cap bolts a quarter turn at a time, loosen and remove the cap bolts.
3. Remove the main bearing caps.
4. Remove the crankshaft and install the main bearing caps in place, loosely tightening the mounting bolts.
