27. The clutch does not disengage (the pedal goes to the floor - the gearshift lever does not freely move into the reverse position)

1. Leakage in the hydraulic system of the clutch engagement drive. Check the master and slave cylinders and pipelines (see Chapter 8).

2. Warping or damage of the clutch driven disc (see Chapter 8).

3. Wear or lack of lubrication in the clutch release shaft sleeve (see Chapter 8).

4. On mechanical clutch release systems - wear or incorrect adjustment of the cable (see Chapter 1 и 8).

28. Clutch slippage (engine speed increases, but vehicle speed does not increase)

1. Incorrect adjustment of the lever mechanism (see Chapter 8).

2. Clutch disc is oiled or friction linings are worn. Remove the clutch and check (see Chapter 8).

3. The clutch disc has not been ground in. It may take 30-40 normal starts to ground in a new clutch disc.

29. Grasping (vibration) when engaging the clutch

1. Oil on the friction linings of the disc. Remove (see Chapter 8) and perform a check. Eliminate leaks.

2. Engine or gearbox mounts are worn or loose. Slight movement of these units when the clutch is released. Inspect the mounting assemblies and bolts (see Chapter 2).

3. Clutch disc hub splines are worn. Remove and inspect the clutch components (see Chapter 8).

4. Warping of the pressure plate or flywheel. Remove and inspect the clutch components (see Chapter 8).

30. Squealing or vibration when the clutch is fully disengaged (pedal pressed)

1. Wear, failure or destruction of the release bearing (see Chapter 8).

2. Wear or damage to the pressure plate springs (or diaphragm fingers) (see Chapter 8).

31. The clutch pedal does not return to its original position after being pressed

The linkage or release bearing is sticking. Check the linkage or remove the clutch components.
