Examination

Distributorless Healing System (DIS)

Primary winding (1989)

1. Disconnect the primary winding wire connector.

2. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between connector terminals (see illustration) No.4 and No.2 (cylinders No.4 and No.1). Measure the resistance between terminals No.4 and No.1 (cylinders No.2 and No.3).

7.2. Designation of the terminals of the primary winding of the DIS system coil of 1989

3. Compare the readings obtained with the specifications given at the beginning of this Chapter. If the readings do not match those given, replace the coil.

Primary winding (1990)

4. Disconnect the primary winding wire connector.

5. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals:, connector (see illustration) No.3 and No.2 (cylinders No.1 and No.4). Measure the resistance between terminals No.3 and No.1 (cylinders No.2 and No.3).

7.5. Designation of the terminals of the primary winding of the DIS system coil of 1990

6. Compare the readings obtained with the specifications given at the beginning of this Chapter. If the readings do not match those given, replace the coil.

Secondary winding

7. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the high voltage (secondary winding) terminals for cylinders #1 and #4 (see illustration). Measure the resistance between the high voltage terminals for cylinders #2 and #3.

7.7. On DIS system coils, check the resistance between the two terminals of the secondary winding

8. Compare the readings obtained with the specifications given at the beginning of this Chapter. If the readings do not match those given, replace the coil.

Other models

9. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

10. Find the coil.

11. Using an ohmmeter, perform the following checks:
  • (a) Measure the resistance between the positive and negative terminals (see illustration). Compare the results with the value indicated specifications of this chapter for the primary winding.
  • (b) Disconnect the high-tension lead from the coil. Measure the resistance between the positive terminal and the high-tension terminal. Compare the results with the value given in specifications of this chapter for the secondary winding.

7.11. Welding the resistance of the primary winding (a conventional coil is shown)

12. If the results of both tests are not within specification, replace the coil.

Replacement

13. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

14. Disconnect the wire from the coil.

15. Disconnect the coil fasteners.

16. Remove the coil.

17. Perform installation in reverse order.
