Rear wheel cylinder parts (on the inserts – lubrication points before assembly: with sealant (left), brake fluid (center) and lubrication with the repair kit composition)

1. Drum; 2. Bleeding nipple; 3. Brake pipe nipple; 4. Cylinder; 5. Cover; 6. Piston; 7. Piston seal; 8. Cylinder

Examination

Turn back the edge of the wheel cylinder boot and inspect it from the inside. If any signs of fluid leakage are found under the dust cover, replace the cylinder.

Removal and installation

1. Remove the drums and shoes (see subsection 11.13.1, subsection 11.13.2).

2. Place a tray underneath, unscrew the fitting and plug the tube and the hole in the cylinder.

3. Disconnect the tube and unscrew the mounting bolts.

4. Remove the cylinder.

5. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

6. Tighten the mounting bolts to 18 Nm.

Disassembly and assembly

1. Carefully remove the dust covers from the removed cylinder and take out the pistons.

2. Check the condition of the parts, the presence of scratches and traces of corrosion on the cylinder.

3. Check the clearance between the piston and the cylinder. If the gap exceeds 0.15 mm, replace the cylinder assembly.

4. When assembling, place new seals on the pistons using the MB990621-01 cone, after lubricating the seal and cone with grease from the repair kit or brake fluid.

5. Further assembly is carried out in reverse order.

6. Bleed the brake hydraulic system.
