The fuel system includes a rotary high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP), which is driven by a camshaft drive belt, injectors, a turbocharger, a fuel filter with a fuel pump, fuel lines and starting spark plugs. In addition, vehicles with 4D56 engines with a capacity of 95 hp and 4D56T are equipped with an air-to-air cooler.

Since the 1991 model year, vehicles with 4D56T engines have been equipped with an accelerated pre-heating system.

Air filter brand Mitsubishi.

The fuel tank is stamped from sheet steel and mounted at the rear of the vehicle.

Capacity, l:
  • short wheelbase two-door car: 60 (until 1991.) and 75 (after 1991.);
  • long-wheelbase four-door car: 92.

Fuel filter brand Toyota Roki CO-TD.

The high-pressure fuel pump of the Diesel Kiki brand is equipped with an all-mode speed controller and a hydraulic injection advance controller.

Engine crankshaft speed at idle, rpm: 700–800.

Initial fuel injection advance angle after TDC:
  • engines 4D56, 4D56T: 70.

The engines use Diesel Kiki brand injectors with a screw-on body.

Both standard and reduced nozzles can be used.

Injection start pressure, kgf/cm²: 118–128.

Resistance of starting plugs, mOhm: 250.

The engines are equipped with a turbocharger, which uses the energy of the exhaust gases to supercharge the engine.

By increasing the mass of air entering the cylinders, the turbocharger promotes more efficient combustion of the increased dose of fuel, thereby increasing engine power at moderate thermal stress.

On the 4D56 engine with a power of 95 hp and 4D56T the intake air is cooled by an air-to-air cooler.



Since May 1991, the 4D56 engine has been equipped with a new turbocharger with higher performance characteristics, which were achieved, in particular, by increasing the length of the intake manifold and changing the geometry of the exhaust tract.

Boost pressure, kgf/cm²:
  • 4D56 engine with 95 hp: 0.78;
  • engine 4D56T: 0.82.

Air cooling in the heat exchanger is provided by an electric fan, which is switched on and off by the cooler electric fan switch sensor, installed on the cooler body.

Since May 1991, the useful area of the 4D56T engine cooler has been increased by 25% compared to the cooler installed on vehicles with a 4D56 engine with a capacity of 95 hp.

The sensor for turning on the heat exchanger electric fan is triggered at a temperature above 50°C.
