Proper regular maintenance will help keep your vehicle in good condition and looking good for a long time.

The maintenance operations described in this manual can be performed by the owner. It is recommended to carry out periodic vehicle inspections and maintenance at an authorized Mitsubishi service center or other specialized service stations, however, if desired, all work can be carried out independently, following the relevant chapters of this Manual. If a malfunction or any other problems occur, it is recommended to carry out inspection and repair. This section describes maintenance tasks that the owner can perform himself. When performing work, follow the instructions and observe safety precautions.
  • Before performing any inspection or other work in the engine compartment, make sure the engine is off and sufficiently cool.
  • If it is necessary to work in the engine compartment while the engine is running, be especially careful to ensure that clothing, hair, etc. are not caught in the fan, drive belts, or other moving parts.
  • Do not smoke, allow sparks to form, or work with open flames near fuel or batteries. Fuel vapors and gas released from the battery are highly flammable.
  • Use extreme caution when working near batteries. It contains poisonous and corrosive sulfuric acid.
  • It is prohibited to be under a vehicle raised on a jack. It is necessary to install stands under the vehicle.

Caution: Improper handling of parts and materials used in the vehicle can be dangerous. To obtain the necessary information, it is recommended to contact a specialist.

Catalytic converter

During normal operation, no special precautions are required, except one: use only unleaded gasoline.

An exhaust system with a catalytic converter is an extremely effective means of reducing the toxicity of exhaust gases. The catalytic converter is installed in the exhaust system.

To ensure the efficient operation of the catalytic converter and to prevent damage to it, it is very important to properly tune the engine.

Attention:
  • If the vehicle is not used correctly, the catalytic converter may be damaged. If the engine is not operating normally, especially if there is misfiring or other significant malfunctions, the vehicle should be immediately sent for repair. Prolonged operation of the vehicle with severe overheating can lead to damage to the neutralizer and the vehicle.
  • General rule for all vehicles: it is forbidden to stop the vehicle or allow the vehicle to move in places where flammable materials, such as dry grass or leaves, may come into contact with hot parts of the vehicle's exhaust system, as this may cause a fire.
  • Do not apply primer, paint or anti-corrosion coating to the catalytic converter.

The catalytic converter heats up quickly and can be damaged if overheated. To prevent unburned fuel from entering the catalytic converter, the following rules must be observed.
  • It is necessary to refuel cars with a gasoline engine unleaded petrol only.
  • It is prohibited to drive with a very low fuel level in the tank; lack of fuel can cause the catalytic converter to fail.
  • It is prohibited to turn off the ignition while driving.
  • Do not start the engine by pushing, towing or driving downhill. If the battery is discharged, use a booster battery to start the engine.
  • It is prohibited to leave a gasoline engine running if at least one of the spark plug wires is removed (for example, for diagnostic purposes).
  • Do not allow the engine to idle for long periods of time, with interruptions or when malfunctioning.
  • Do not increase engine speed before turning off the ignition. This will prevent damage to the catalytic converter from unburned fuel.
  • Stop driving if engine power is significantly reduced, if the engine is running at abnormally high or low speed, or if other engine problems such as ignition problems are present.
  • If it is not possible to stop immediately, you should reduce speed and continue driving only for a short time. It is recommended to have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
  • In rare situations involving serious engine problems, a burning smell may indicate severe overheating of the catalytic converter.

In this case, the car should be stopped in a safe place, the engine turned off and the car allowed to cool down. After this, maintenance should be carried out immediately, including engine adjustment in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations.
