Warning! For vehicles with the SRS, before removing the steering gear, set the front wheels parallel to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle and remove the ignition key. Failure to do so may damage the SRS clock spring and cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly, resulting in serious injury.
Removal
To remove the power steering gear, perform the following operations in sequence.
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Drain the power steering hydraulic fluid from the hydraulic system.
3. Remove the cross beam.
4. Remove the exhaust pipe.

5. Unscrew connecting bolt 10 (Fig. 13.13) securing the steering shaft and steering gear.
6. Loosen and remove clamp 9.
7. Remove cotter pin 4.
8. Using the special tool, loosen the tie rod end ball joint pin nut. Do not completely remove the nut from the ball joint pin.
9. Using a ball joint puller, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
Caution: To prevent the puller from bouncing, hang it on a wire or cord.
10. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the low pressure hose 13.
11. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the high pressure hose 8.
12. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the steering gear mounting bracket 3.
13. Unscrew the two bolts and remove the bracket 1 securing the steering gear housing.
14. Remove the steering gear assembly 7. When removing, be careful not to damage the protective boots of the steering gear and tie rod ends.
15. Remove the protective cover 12 as a whole. Make sure there are no cracks or damage to the rubber parts.
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.

1. Install the intake pipe of the exhaust system.
2. Install the central (longitudinal) beam.
3. Fill the power steering hydraulic system with working fluid.
4. Bleed the power steering hydraulic system.
5. Check the position of the steering wheel with the front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
6. Adjust the front wheel alignment angles.
