Checking the selector lever (Mitsubishi Carisma)

1. Check the ease and smoothness of the selector lever movement and its fixation in each position. Check the indications of the selector lever position indicator, which should coincide with the position of the lever.

2. Check the operation of the selector lever locking mechanism (Fig. 12.11).

3. Start the engine and check the operation of the gearbox control mechanism (when moving the lever from position "N" to "D", the car should move forward, and when moving the lever to position "R", the car should move backward).

4. If faults are detected in the gearbox control mechanism, adjust the cable connecting the selector lever to the control valve block and the selector lever slider. Make sure that there is no excessive wear of the gearbox control mechanism parts.
