When using diesel fuel with anti-freeze properties guaranteed by the manufacturer and with a heated diesel filter (if installed) additives remain effective up to the guaranteed temperature.
At low temperatures, the fluidity and filterability of diesel fuel are insufficient (paraffin precipitation).
Therefore, grades of diesel fuel with improved temperature properties are sold in the winter months. When the cold season sets in, refuel with winter grades of fuel.
To maintain the fluidity and filterability of summer grades of fuel at low temperatures, it is necessary to mix into the fuel tank in quantities corresponding to the outside temperature:
- kerosene for engines or
- conventional lead-free gasoline for internal combustion engines, or
- fuel additives (thinners)
WARNING: It is not possible to dissolve the precipitated paraffin.
Engine kerosene or regular lead-free gasoline can be blended up to the 30% level.
At very low temperatures, add additives to winter diesel fuel as well.
WARNING: Gasoline is flammable and explosive. Even small additives increase the risk of explosion. Therefore, follow the recommendations for refueling.
Remember that when using thinners:
- engine power is not reduced;
- it is possible to use the car even at very low temperatures.
If the engine does not start due to thickened diesel fuel, have the vehicle towed to a garage. Warm up the fuel filter in a hot water bath.
Outside temperature°С | Summer diesel fuel % | Additives % |

-10 to -14 | 70 | 30 |
Outside temperature°С | Winter diesel fuel % | Additives % |
