Caution: Operating the turbocharger with the ducts and filters disconnected may result in personal injury or damage to the impeller blades by foreign objects.

Note: The turbocharger is not serviceable and must be replaced as an assembly.

1. Each turbocharger produces a certain level of noise when operating. If the noise level has changed, there may be a malfunction.

If the turbocharger noise pitch alternately rises and falls:
  • a) Check for heavy contamination inside the compressor housing and compressor impeller
  • b) Check the patency of the air ducts.

If the noise is high pitched or whistling:
  • c) Check the tightness of the air supply and gas outlet channels.

2. With the engine off and the turbocharger stopped, visually inspect the turbocharger and its components.

3. Check the tightness of the connection of the air supply channel from the air filter to the turbocharger.

4. Check the tightness of the turbocharger connection to the intake system.

5. Visually check the integrity of the turbocharger impellers.

6. Make sure that there is no contact between the impeller and the housing.

7. Make sure the shaft rotates freely. If it rotates with difficulty, it indicates the formation of thick oily deposits or coke due to overheating.

8. Press down on one of the impellers of the shaft while rotating it. Make sure that the impellers rotate freely without touching the housing.

9. Check the integrity of the exhaust manifold and the tightness of its connections.

10. Check the patency of the oil drain channel.

11. Visually inspect the exhaust gas bypass valve drive and mechanism for damage.

12. Check the condition of the exhaust gas bypass valve hose.
