- 1. End play
- 2. Gaps in bearing journals
- 3. cam size
Axial play is checked either before removing the camshaft, or installing, with the belt removed (chains). Backlash is checked with a pointer micrometer. On an engine with a removable thrust cover, the play is checked with a feeler gauge. If the play is increased, then replace the thrust cover. If the play is still large, then replace the camshaft.
The gap in the support necks is checked by crushing the plastic gauge between the neck and the cover. Covers and necks must be thoroughly cleaned of oil, the bolts are tightened to the specified torque with the camshaft stationary.
If the measured backlashes and the sizes do not correspond to norm, replace a cam-shaft.
