1. Remove the upper timing belt cover.

2. Turn the crankshaft clockwise and set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC in the compression stroke, while the mark on the camshaft pulley should be aligned with the pointer (Fig. 3.11).

Caution: Since the purpose of this operation is to ensure the required tension of the timing belt due to the forces created by the camshaft cams, rotation of the crankshaft in the opposite direction is not allowed.

3. Remove the service cover.

4. Loosen the timing belt tensioner roller mounting bolt and allow the tensioner spring to tighten the belt.

Caution! The bolt can be loosened within 80–200°. If the bolt is loosened further, it may fall inside the cover.


5. Tighten the timing belt tensioner roller mounting bolt.

6. Install the service cover.

7. Install the upper timing belt cover.
