Removal
- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the plug and drain the engine oil from the engine.
Warning: Prolonged skin contact with mineral oil will strip away the natural oils from human skin, causing dryness, irritation, and dermatitis. In addition, used motor oil contains potentially harmful substances that can cause skin cancer.
- Loosen the nuts and remove the exhaust system guide pipe and gasket.
- Remove the bolt and the engine oil level indicator guide tube together with the sealing ring.
- Remove the bolts and gearbox support.
- Remove the bolts and clutch housing cover.
- Remove the oil pan mounting bolts. Using a hammer through a brass rod and special tool MD998727, separate the oil pan from the cylinder block, gradually moving the special tool along the perimeter of the oil pan flange (Fig. 3.23).

Caution: Perform this operation slowly to avoid deforming the oil pan flange.
Examination
- Check the oil pan for cracks.
- Check the oil pan surface that mated with the cylinder block for damage or deformation.
- Check the oil strainer and oil pickup tube for cracks, dirt, or damaged wire mesh and tube.
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
- Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
- Apply a continuous bead of MITSUBISHI MD970389 sealant with a diameter of approximately 4 mm to the mating surface of the oil pan flange that mates with the cylinder block (Fig. 3.24).

- Within 30 minutes of applying the sealant, install the oil pan and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
- Screw the engine oil drain plug into the oil pan, while installing a new sealing ring on the plug in the position shown in Figure 3.25.

- Fill the engine with motor oil.
- Install the front exhaust pipe.
- Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Start the engine and check for engine oil leaks.
