Removal
- Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery,
- Remove the lower engine splash shield.
- Remove the front exhaust pipe.
- Remove the plug and drain the engine oil from the engine.
- Unscrew the bolts securing the lower section of the oil pan. Using a hammer and a wooden block, knock off and remove the lower section of the oil pan (Fig. 2.28).

Warning
(1) Perform this operation slowly to avoid deformation of the oil pan flange.
(2) Since the upper section of the oil pan is made of aluminum alloy, the puller (MB998727) cannot be used to remove the lower section of the oil pan.
- Remove the bolts and remove the cover.
- Check the oil pan upper section mounting bolts.
- Insert the blade of a flat-head screwdriver into the slot in the upper section of the oil pan (Fig. 2.29). Turn the screwdriver to separate the upper section of the oil pan from the cylinder block.
- Remove the bolts and the partition.

Warning: Since the upper section of the oil pan is made of aluminum alloy, the puller (MB998727) cannot be used to remove it.
Installation
- Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following.
- Clean and degrease the mating surfaces of the cylinder block and oil pan.
- Apply a continuous bead of MITSUBISHI MD970369 sealant approximately 4 mm in diameter to the oil pan upper section mating surface against the cylinder block (see Fig. 2.27).
- Within 30 minutes of applying the sealant, install the upper section of the oil pan and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
- Apply a continuous bead of MITSUBISHI MD970369 sealant approximately 4 mm in diameter to the oil pan lower section mating surface with the oil pan upper section (see Fig. 2.27).

- Within 30 minutes of applying the sealant, install the lower section of the oil pan and secure with bolts, tightening them to the required torque.
- Screw the engine oil drain plug into the oil pan, while installing a new sealing ring on the plug in the position shown in Figure 2.30.

- Fill the engine with motor oil
- Install the lower mudguard
- Install the front exhaust pipe.
- Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Start the engine and check for engine oil leaks.
