Mechanical pump (models with carburetor engine)
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the radiator filler cap. Remove the air filter.
5.2 Disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel pump
2. Disconnect the fuel hoses from the pump (5.2).
5.3 Unscrew the pump mounting bolts (indicated by arrows) and remove the pump
3. Unscrew the pump mounting bolts (5.3).

4. Remove the pump and remove any remaining old gasket from the surface of the pump and cylinder head.
5. Check the condition of the fuel hoses.
6. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Use new gaskets.
Electric pump (fuel injection models)
External fuel pump (Cordia and Tredia models)
7. Release the pressure from the fuel system. Remove the left rear wheel. Remove the fuel tank mounting strip and lower the fuel tank slightly.
5.8 On Cordia and Tredia models with fuel injection, remove the left rear wheel and unscrew the pump mounting bolts (indicated by arrows)
8. Unscrew the pump mounting bolts (5.8).
9. Disconnect the fuel hoses and the pump connection connector. Remove the pump from the mounting bracket.
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Fuel pump mounted in the fuel tank (all other models)
5.11a On some models, such as the Galant, the fuel pump is removed from the side of the fuel tank, so there is no need to remove the fuel tank - simply disconnect the connection connector, fuel pipes and unscrew the mounting screws
11. Release the pressure from the fuel system. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the fuel tank if necessary, or disconnect the fuel pipes and connection connector (5.11a and 5.11b).
5.11b On other models, such as Colt, Lancer, Mirage, the fuel pump is removed from the top of the fuel tank, so the fuel pump must be removed from the car

12. Loosen the mounting screws and remove the fuel pump from the tank. Check the condition of the pump gasket and replace it if necessary.
13. Check the fuel filter on the bottom of the pump (5.11b). Clean or replace it.
14. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
