The rear wheels of the car are equipped with drum brakes, which automatically maintain the gap between the shoes and the drum. Two semicircular brake shoes are pressed against the cylindrical brake drum by the action of a wheel brake cylinder fixed at the top. This design with one wheel cylinder for two shoes is called simplex brakes. The drum brake is "self-amplifying", namely, the brake shoe is pressed against the drum to a certain extent by itself due to the rotation of the wheel. Due to this, a small force is required on the pedal. When moving forward, the front shoe works with force. It is called the active or primary brake shoe, the rear shoe is called the passive or secondary brake shoe.

With this brake design, the brake clearance is automatically adjusted after the brake pedal is released.
