1. On the underside of each cap is the main bearing cap number and an arrow indicating the direction toward the front of the engine (Figure 3.60). Starting with the bearing cap, first on the toothed belt side, they are installed in the numbered order. Make sure that the arrows point toward the toothed belt.

2. After installing the covers, measure the axial clearance of the crankshaft (Figure 3.61). If the obtained value exceeds the permissible value, the main bearing shells must be replaced.
  • Nominal value: 0.05-0.18 mm.
  • Acceptable value: 0.25 mm.
